The Awesomeness that is Annie!

Posted under Annie, The randomness that is my life 2 Comments

1.  So Annie can whip out movie quotes like there’s no tomorrow.  She often uses them in day to day conversation with a remarkably straight face.  She seems to get her brand of humor from her Uncle Brian.  Can you guess the movie?

Annie and I are at the island putting goodies bags together for her birthday.  She puts on a bead then struggles to bend the pipe cleaner into a heart.  She sighs, flops the items onto the table and says the following to herself.

Annie Maybe I should just quit and go back to making noodles.

Did you guess Kung Fu Panda?

2.  Background:  We have always referenced body parts by their names at our house, but lately the kids have been using the word, privates.  Which doesn’t bother me one way or the other as long as they know the proper terminology, but that information is necessary for the following story…

While watching a penguin scene.

Annie What?! His name is Private?  Agh! (You can see the genuine shock on her face)

Me It’s more of a title than a name…Grandpa is a colonel, some people can be a captain or a major.

Annie  That doesn’t make any sense.  Is he called Private because he…he looks like one?

Me Definitely not!  That’s just his name.

 Did you guess, Madagascar?

3.  Annie Hey Mom, why are you wearing your pajamas?

Me  What are you talking about Annie, I’m wearing clothes.

Annie  No Mom, you are supposed to say, “I’m not wearing pajamas, it’s a sweatsuit.”

Me I’m not wearing pajamas, it’s a sweatsuit.

Cupping her hands to her mouth and whispering…

Annie Now say, “For doing really cool stuff you wouldn’t understand.”

“For doing really cool stuff you wouldn’t understand.”

Annie  Like Sleeping?

Movie anyone?

4.  Sometimes she just isn’t in the mood for a movie or a show and I hear something like this…

Annie  Can we pleeease watch something else.  I’m getting a Voltron headache.

Yeah, this is the life I lead…

Stuff It!

Posted under Hudson, The randomness that is my life 2 Comments

Hudson  Mom, why did you buy a new trashcan?

Me …because the other one had super gross stuff in it I couldn’t really get out.

Hudson Daddy cleaned it out and now it’s the recycling can in the garage.

Me  It’s handy isn’t it.  And that’s one of the reasons I love Daddy!

Hudson  No Mom, you didn’t need a recycling container.  You have a blue one outside.

Hudson’s monologue begins.

Hudson You know you really shouldn’t buy new stuff when the old stuff is just fine.  You just buy, buy, buy stuff when we don’t need it.  You remind me of Stanley Stuff-It.  You buy lots of stuff we don’t need and then you stuff it everywhere.  You need to save our money.  We need to have money so we can go to Legoland as a family and we can’t do that if you keep buying things and stuffing them everywhere. (Stanely Stuff-It was a book Hudson read in school.)

Shock on my part ensued for his pointant delivery as well as sober tone.  Clearly, I thought I was doing better than I really was.  Lesson learned.  Don’t let my kids read anymore!…Oh wait, I mean don’t buy things I don’t need so I can save for things like a house…and apparently Legoland tickets.

1 week later after Annie’s party.

Hudson  Mom, you are so busted for wasting money again!

Me What?  How so?

Hudson The red cake on the counter…

Me  What about it?  It is for Annie’s birthday on Tuesday.  We wanted you to get cake too.

Hudson No Mom, you wasted money buying too much cake.  It is getting wasted and no one is eating it.  Besides, I don’t feel like a piece of cake.

For the record, this little red cake had a diameter of 4 inches.  This kid is serious about savings.

A Day at the Spa

Annie is getting her first birthday party this year.  We have the 5 year rule in our house…no parties before you are 5.  Boy has she gone super girly with her theme.  Too bad most of her friends are boys.  I guess we’ll see how it goes.

What’s New at the Zoo?

Posted under Grace, The randomness that is my life 2 Comments

Gracie is a hearty 20 lbs.  Boy am I thankful.  We are right on target!  Physical therapy and occupational therapy are going well at the house and at Rady’s.  Grace has started doing a crawl or two when she is really motivated.  Piano sheet music and books are what really get her moving(I wonder if we have some foreshadowing going on).  It usually ends up turning into a crawl/roll/sit deal, but she can finally move it, move it so we are counting our blessings!

Gracie got a baby walker for her birthday and she has finally learned to move other directions besides backward.  She has managed to make herself extremely mobile and since her arms are so long she is in ALL of my cupboards.  She has since broken a huge heavy platter.  I even founder her in my stash of Chick-Fil-A sauce gnawing on one of the little tubs that she found…what have I done?  Good thing she’s cute:)

Occupational therapy has a goal for her to close her mouth and have the tongue thrusting stop, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.  The raspberries she blows do continue to melt me though.

We have an ultrasound of her kidneys coming up that will hopefully come back clean.  I’m most worried about this test since over half of kids with a 10p15 deletion have kidney failure or need transplants.  Fingers are crossed.

We took Gracie in to get her hearing tested.  She passed 2 of the 3 tests.  We are going back March 2nd for her to get a sedated brainstem response.  I have my fingers crossed that things go smoothly.  We put her to bed at 11pm the night before and wake her up at 3am and have to keep her awake until the test at 7:30.  She isn’t allowed to eat or drink anything during this time period.  I feel so bad for the little bug.  My laugh/gauf over the phone when they told me about the test quickly turned into a wince/oh you were serious?!…response.  Gracie is a trooper…I’m sure it will all be great!

Words I Never Thought Would Part My Lips…

Posted under Annie, family, Hudson, kiddos, The randomness that is my life 4 Comments

…at least in this order.

Me Hey look I found 2 slugs.  Do you guys want some pets?

An hour later…

Hudson and Annie Can we have a black knife to make our slugs seatbelts?

Me  Huh?…What?!  No, you can’t have a knife to make your slug a seatbelt.

Hudson Oops…Mom, I think I killed Annie’s slug.

Me  Your seatbelt killed her slug?!…Oh the irony

Hudson Yup.  I tried to to get it out with my fingers and my fingers turned sticky and red.

Annie  GIVE ME BACK MY SLUG!!!

Hudson  It’s okay, now it can be necklace with a dead slug.  Look, Annie!  It’s a dead slug on a cross.  Whenever you see an animal on a cross, it’s most likely dead.

Me  Hmmm…..

Annie Let’s make a bed for YOUR slug, Hudson.

Me Good luck with that.

I really bring this all on myself.
