Ghoulish Goodies…

Posted under Fall, Food, Holidays, kiddos, Projects for the Little Guys No Comments

I know they’re tacky treats!  It’s taboo to bring them to a party since they lack both gourmet and originality points.  But I like them so I made them anyway.  Sometimes you just have those days where you’ve scheduled 27 hours worth of stuff in a 24 hour day…these treats are good for those kinds of days!  Party treat aside, they are wonderful for the kids to make and so much fun for them to eat.

Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!

…So here is something for everybody!  We started with a can of homestyle refrigerated rolls.  Generic work just fine. I used the smaller ones, but I think I’m going to try the larger biscuits next time.

I found a handy, dandy water bottle top and made myself both a doughnut and each corresponding hole.

Heat that vegetable oil nice and hot and plop those babies in there.  You don’t need to let the dough raise or anything.  They do plump up nicely while they cook!

Only fry the doughnuts for about a minute.  They should have just a little color to them.  Once you have pulled them out, let them drip for a second on a wire cookie rack.  Put a paper towel underneath to catch the oil.

I melted some butter and mixed some white sugar and cinnamon and we got an assembly line going.  After the doughnuts have had a minute on the wire rack, dip them in the butter and then roll them around in the sugar mixture.

Eat them up!  Was there ever a better 5 minute snack?!

Ruffles, Truffles, But So Much More!

It’s summer and anything goes.  Man, I really should needlepoint that on a pillow.  Okay, so maybe not, but can you guess what the kids and I decided to make together?  That’s right…120 truffles!  We made oreo cream cheese, dark chocolate and dark chocolate with a mint shell.  Oh my, are my taste buds happy.  Believe it or not, the kids did all of the steps except for the final shell coat.  Now that is a recipe to keep close!

Dad got him hooked.  I never realized how much time a huge pile of pennies could buy.

Hopping Down the Bunny Trail

Posted under Annie, Hudson, Projects for the Little Guys 2 Comments

Super Cheesy I know…but at least the kids won’t lose their spots in their books anymore!  If I did it again, I would probably make them into multi-colored monsters, with lots or tentacles and googly eyes attached, instead of bunnies, but for now there was no Easter fun in that!
