Snuggle Bugs

Posted under Grace, Spring 2 Comments

I get this look a lot.  Oh how I love her!

We are off to GI today at Children’s.  It’s the last specialist we need to see before surgery.   Just a few more hours and then the ball will once again be rolling.

No Witty Titles, Just Some Surgery…

Posted under Grace, Spring 5 Comments

I had a brain liquifying moment today sitting in Otolaryngology this morning.  Too many big words leaving the doctor’s mouth, snaked their way through the room slapping me in the face; leaving me a little stunned and confused.

The results of it all include a tympanostomy (she will be getting tubes), an adenoidectomy, a possible stomach biopsy and a something or other, where they go in with a scope and look at her throat/larynx, etc. to make sure everything is working well.  Then, last but not least, she has obstructed sleep apnea..this is the point my brain was done.

First things first, we are off to see the GI specialist, then we will be scheduling the surgeries, which they want done ASAP.  If she needs hearing-aids, they want them sooner rather than later.  Luckily, they plan on doing all 4 things at once so Gracie only as to go under once.  They said combined it should take about an hour.  They offered us a Pre-Op tour of the surgical facilities, which made me a little nervous, but I appreciated their attention to detail.  After all of this is done we get to go back and have another try at the Sedated Brainstem Response and a possible “sleep study” to try and work out the sleep apnea.

Through Their Eyes

Posted under Annie, family, Grace, Hudson, kiddos 2 Comments

Last Sunday my kids were begging me to use my camera.  Now that they are bigger I thought it might be a fun idea  I am all about giving my kids new opportunities.  So here it is through the eyes of Hudson and Annie.

.

I know we aren’t very exciting, but I figured Hudson and Annie sitting on the bed taking pictures using my kit lens was the best bet in case of accidental camera droppings.  And quite frankly, my bed is the most comfortable place to be in the house.

Clearly Hudson likes being the photographer much more than the photographee…just like his dad!

I had to put this one in there.  That is my tongue not my bottom lip…crazy, right?

She may be blurry, but Hudson has a way of making her smile!

What’s New at the Zoo?

Gracie is a hearty 20 lbs.  Boy am I thankful.  We are right on target!  Physical therapy and occupational therapy are going well at the house and at Rady’s.  Grace has started doing a crawl or two when she is really motivated.  Piano sheet music and books are what really get her moving(I wonder if we have some foreshadowing going on).  It usually ends up turning into a crawl/roll/sit deal, but she can finally move it, move it so we are counting our blessings!

Gracie got a baby walker for her birthday and she has finally learned to move other directions besides backward.  She has managed to make herself extremely mobile and since her arms are so long she is in ALL of my cupboards.  She has since broken a huge heavy platter.  I even founder her in my stash of Chick-Fil-A sauce gnawing on one of the little tubs that she found…what have I done?  Good thing she’s cute:)

Occupational therapy has a goal for her to close her mouth and have the tongue thrusting stop, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.  The raspberries she blows do continue to melt me though.

We have an ultrasound of her kidneys coming up that will hopefully come back clean.  I’m most worried about this test since over half of kids with a 10p15 deletion have kidney failure or need transplants.  Fingers are crossed.

We took Gracie in to get her hearing tested.  She passed 2 of the 3 tests.  We are going back March 2nd for her to get a sedated brainstem response.  I have my fingers crossed that things go smoothly.  We put her to bed at 11pm the night before and wake her up at 3am and have to keep her awake until the test at 7:30.  She isn’t allowed to eat or drink anything during this time period.  I feel so bad for the little bug.  My laugh/gauf over the phone when they told me about the test quickly turned into a wince/oh you were serious?!…response.  Gracie is a trooper…I’m sure it will all be great!
