Getting Fat!
Sitting at the island eating peanut butter waffles.
Hudson Hey Mom, there are 2 ways for you to get fat. One way is to have a baby, but then you shrink after a couple of days after you have the baby and then you aren’t fat anymore. The other way is to eat a lot of noodles.
Me Oh…interesting
Sidenote: The previous day one of his friends had said macaroni and cheese was bad for you and he was upset. I explained that if that was the case then all pasta would be bad for you. Will went on to explain carbs and what happens to carbs in your body if you don’t exercise enough.

Between the optimist and the pessimist, the difference is droll. The optimist sees the doughnut; the pessimist the hole!

…So here is something for everybody! We started with a can of homestyle refrigerated rolls. Generic work just fine. I used the smaller ones, but I think I’m going to try the larger biscuits next time.
I found a handy, dandy water bottle top and made myself both a doughnut and each corresponding hole.
Heat that vegetable oil nice and hot and plop those babies in there. You don’t need to let the dough raise or anything. They do plump up nicely while they cook!
Only fry the doughnuts for about a minute. They should have just a little color to them. Once you have pulled them out, let them drip for a second on a wire cookie rack. Put a paper towel underneath to catch the oil.
I melted some butter and mixed some white sugar and cinnamon and we got an assembly line going. After the doughnuts have had a minute on the wire rack, dip them in the butter and then roll them around in the sugar mixture.
Eat them up! Was there ever a better 5 minute snack?!

Breakfast of Champions

Yeah, so here is what happens when I let Will make breakfast without his Star Wars pancake molds. Sausage…anyone?

Brazilian Night

That’s right, the Blattmans got in touch with their inner Brazilian and the cooking commenced. You might wonder about our attire for the evening. Don’t worry. The only thongs that were worn fit snugly between our toes! For the occasion, Will found a Brazilian grocery store here in San Diego. Boy was he tickled pink over the whole experience. In so much, that I promptly band him from the store unless I was there to accompany him. He about bought the store out; all in the name of nostalgia.
Either way, we had so much fun cooking together. We made pastels, pao de queijo, and I tried my hand at coxinhas. This was a first for me and it is the item pictured above. They are filled with chicken, spices and cheese, then wrapped in a dough and rolled in bread crumbs to create a crunchy crust.

Ruffles, Truffles, But So Much More!
It’s summer and anything goes. Man, I really should needlepoint that on a pillow. Okay, so maybe not, but can you guess what the kids and I decided to make together? That’s right…120 truffles! We made oreo cream cheese, dark chocolate and dark chocolate with a mint shell. Oh my, are my taste buds happy. Believe it or not, the kids did all of the steps except for the final shell coat. Now that is a recipe to keep close!
