So we tried out Capriotti’s in Vegas.  I am a lover of subs so I am always game for a new shop.  I don’t do soggy or small.  Go big or go home, right?!  And just look at us being little piggies, we are taking up the entire bar at the sandwich shop with my parents down at the end.  Can anyone spot the Pout, Pout Fish?!

It took a village this year to make our tummies happy.  Now that the kids are getting older, they aren’t satisfied teaming up for competitions anymore.  This year we featured a house, a bakery, a chalet, a toy shop, and a gabled house. If I do say so myself, the kids managed to hold their own.

We got together with Joe and Negin in Arizona for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Clearly, Annie would have been able to hold her own in the days of yore.  Annie’s voracious eating was definitely aided by the delicious stuffing (figs, candied pecans, apricots-what yummy ingredients) and the fabulous turkey!

 The kids were kept busy during the feast preparations by remembering everything they were thankful for.

Will and I slipped out for a Halloween double date a few days ago.  The Haunted Hotel ranks #13 for best Haunted Houses in the country.  So naturally, that’s where we headed.  I don’t scare very easily and my “fight or flight” response tends to heavily favor, fight.  Will can testify of that.  Let’s just say he doesn’t try to jump out from dark corners in our house as much anymore to try and startle me.

The hotel takes points on originality and creativity for sure.  They didn’t get any screams out of me, but they had a poor guy in our group screaming in Spanish most of the time while huddled with the 2 girls he came with.  They seemed legitimately scared.

All that screaming everyone did worked up an appetite so we wandered the Gas Lamp District until we happened upon Lou and Mickey’s .  It was at this point in the evening, sitting out on the patio, my love affair with key lime pie flared something huge.

I know they’re tacky treats!  It’s taboo to bring them to a party since they lack both gourmet and originality points.  But I like them so I made them anyway.  Sometimes you just have those days where you’ve scheduled 27 hours worth of stuff in a 24 hour day…these treats are good for those kinds of days!  Party treat aside, they are wonderful for the kids to make and so much fun for them to eat.
