Poncho or Rain hat?

The last of the tests from Dysmorphology returned.  I got the call Thursday.  More specifically, Will and my genetic tests came back.  Neither Will nor I have deletions of our 10th chromosome.  Since Will and I are clean, the genetic deletion is Gracie’s and hers alone.  The only reasonable conclusion drawn(as the dr put it) is that Gracie’s delays are most likely resulted from the genetic defect in her chromosomes.  I appreciate the diplomacy they provided…yeah…  The official diagnosis: Chromosome 10p deletion.  What does that mean?…they have no idea.  They said that she should continue to move forward and she shouldn’t regress.  Honestly, I didn’t think much of that considering there is only a handful of things she can do right now.  She is a baby after all.  On a deeper level this means that if all of her organs are properly developed right now we shouldn’t have any problems with them in the future.

To tie everything up in a nice little package, they don’t know what to expect.  We are taking it a day at a time and waiting and watching her life unfold to see if we are sprinkled with any surprises.  Taking a moment to ponder, I can’t help but realize that I take it a day at a time with all of my children.  Boy, am I sprinkled with surprises…on a daily basis!  This situation isn’t any different than the one I am already in.  We hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, even if we don’t fully understand what that could be or mean.  Life is about taking chances, getting messy and learning to enjoy the ride.  That’s why we’re here right?  We have an exciting one ahead and I am planning on getting messy.  Most days I already am.  Perhaps a poncho purchase should be in my future…or a cute rain hat?  I do love hats.
