The Very Hungry CaterpillarOctober 25th, 2009 @ 7:33 am

Hudson walked into the kitchen with a little guy like this riding on his hand a few days ago. Digging deep into my 2nd grade teacher brain, I wondered aloud what caterpillars eat besides leaves. Hudson responds with a rather lengthy list that included: one slice of swiss cheese, a slice of salami, one ice cream cone, a slice of cherry pie, one lollipop and two pears if it’s a Tuesday…or maybe oranges. I think I see a lesson on genres as well as fiction vs. non-fiction in his future.
We scoured the internet and the closest thing we have to identification is some sort of hornworm or a privet hawk caterpillar. I do believe we are mistaken considering those become the biggest moths in the UK at 120mm. It was the best I could find. I was going to include a picture that I was going to take of his caterpillar. Unfortunately, it was too far down on my to-do list. Hudson or Annie set it free somewhere in the house on Thursday while I was giving piano lessons. All that remains is the homemade terrariam in the marshmallow fluff jar. Be free little caterpillar because if I find you lurking in my house somewhere, there will be consequences!

What did parents used to do before the internet? I swear at least once a day I’m saying, “let’s look at up on the computer and find out” I guess that’s why my parents used to have the full set of encyclopedias. Good luck to the caterpillar (or to you?)
