Home Sweet Home
So after many bittersweet hours of unpacking, painting, mowing and arranging the house is just about done. I went a little flamboyant on this house and chose some colors that I have never done before. In pondering the house’s floor plan, I realized that I had to choose a unified color pallet. Anywhere you stand in the house you can usually see into multiple rooms. With this in mind I chose…Gold Buff, Lion’s Mane and Dusty Olive for the downstairs. Go Behr!!!
Since all of my furniture is so dark I tend to take liberties with the brightness of the paint on my walls. I don’t want my house looking like a mausoleum after all.
Will has been working hard on trim and fixing a lot of the windows. I’m so grateful for his acute attention for detail.
It’s amazing that even after we have doubled our living space square footage, we still have managed to fill the space.
We still need to paint the front door, but we’re quickly losing steam.
The kitchen is off to the left. You can at least see the wood floors…that’s the kitchen. Even though it isn’t huge, I appreciate that it opens into the family room and dining room. It makes it feel much more open.
In our bedroom I went blue. Will LOVES blue. I’m pretty sure if he had his way, my whole house would be different shades of blue. On a side note, I try to be good about keeping the comforters not too girly so here was our compromise. Kind of masculine, right?! Ok, maybe not, but it could be a lot worse!
I’m not quite done hanging all of the curtains, yet, but at least one of the layers is up. And I was so excited about putting this painting in our room. It is a recent aquisition. I know you can’t really see it, but the idea of a sepia painting was very appealing to me.
The bathroom is red, but I didn’t really give any pictures of the bathrooms, mostly because I need to go buy new towels. I have just about every color under the sun, but I think I need some khaki ones so I don’t overwhelm people in such a small place so off I go. The vanity is behind me and the closests are off to my left and one in front and off to the right. I’m pretty sure you guys don’t want to see my clothes so I left it undocumented.
Speaking of decorating bathrooms, Will got dumped off the bathroom decorating committee after he suggested I hang one of my favorite quotes over the bathroom entrance. It reads, “Life isn’t measure by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.” It did put me into a fit of giggles, but in the end, I told him, “No!”
We aren’t completely moved in yet and there are still a few stragglers in which we are struggling to find a home(i.e.- DVD player, printer, etc.). Obviously, I’m in the middle of laundry as well.
The kids will make it into a post at a later date. I’m still trying to get everything hung in their rooms and finish off odds and ends. I’m still trying to find a bed I like for Annie. I’m actually just hoping that Will will make one for her.
For those photographers who happen to be looking at these pictures, yes, I am aware that I am posting pictures that are completely blown-out. I promise the grass is green. We love the size of the backyard. Most out of staters would probably laugh at this “big” backyard, but it is fairly good-sized for San Diego. We can hold tag, soccer and badminton games and that’s all that matters.

It looks great! Very bright and cozy. I agree with Heather. You can come finish painting mine. We have been in it for 4 years and I still have to finish painting the living room and dining room. I wish people would throw away more paint:)
