A Rose By Any Other Name

I’ve had a few people in the last few months ask me if there are any flowers in bloom in San Diego right now.  The flowers above are actually quite large.  I could practically wear the petals as a hat.  Honestly,  there are flowers blooming here all year round, but it is the smell of the flowers that is intoxicating.  We have some Wisteria that arches over the entryway by our front door that is wonderful(I forgot to snag a pictures…it’s very purply).

I’m not for sure, but we seem to have some variety of Plumeria that catches on the breeze as well.  imh_6207I actually have no idea what any of the pictured flowers are named.  I just took the pictures because I thought they were beautiful.  Every once and awhile I find myself taking pictures of random things, because I’m hoping to prolong the memory-keeping it vivid.  What’s a better memory of Spring, than a sweet smelling flower.

I must admit that I am not a huge fan of roses, this one struck my fancy a little while back.  I think it was the way it seemed to glow in the light.imh_5005

What Can You Say?

imh_6643There is nothing better in the world than being a mom.  I’m getting much better about laughing instead of crying when the craziness that is my life happens.  I think Will and I practically fell apart at the stitching when we saw Annie.  She is obsessed with washing her hands and puting lotion on them.  The only problem is that she will us ANYTHING that comes out of a tube as a substitute.  Last week, it was toothpaste.  Yesterday, she picked the baby, bum cream.  Look how nicely it give volume.

I washed her hair several times, but I think it just might be here to stay for a few days.  This wasn’t the only day this week that she or Hudson made me smile or giggle to myself.

Me: Hudson, do you want to help me put laundry away? I can throw the socks to you like last time and you can put them in your drawer.
Hudson: No thanks, Mom. I think you can just throw the socks to yourself.

I walk into the kitchen to find Annie sitting in the pantry on a box of Manderine Oranges.  As I observe her kicking her legs furiously in circles I inquire about her activities.  She replies, “Mommy, I’m riding my bicycle.”

All a Flutter

imh_6470I went with a friend and her girls to the Wild Animal Park this last week to see the butterflies before the exhibit left.  We thoroughly enjoyed the park.  Honestly, the butterflies weren’t impressive, but hey, to each his own.  We did find plenty of other things that got the troops talking.

We couldn’t pass up the chance to see the Lorikeets.  Hudson and Annie have finally gotten the hang of feeding them.  I think the birds are still just a bit too heavy for Annie to be able to hold.imh_6489The petting pen was quite the hit with the kids this time around.  imh_6505

Annie was definitely not a fan of having her hands dirty.  Then again, at home she is almost constantly washing her hands.

imh_6528We did take a bit of a detour this time around to see the Condors and Sumatran Tiger.  We were hoping to tire the kids out with a little bit of an off road hike.  I actually think it might have had the opposite effect, but the suspensions bridges were fun nonetheless.  Hudson was obviously feeling a little daring.

With the arrival of Spring, many new little ones have been born in the park.  I think we must have sat and watched the elephants for almost 20 minutes.

imh_6508Toward the end we found the turtle shells and Hudson just couldn’t resist – still as happy as ever!imh_6507Somedays I wonder if this is his favorite part of the park.

Did I Mention She Lives in the Morgue?

p3290347-1As I mentioned in a previous post, my sister lives in the basement of a funeral home; while she and her husband are finishing school.  This is the entry way.  The main part of her house is down and to the left.  Apparently, the home started out as the tabernacle.  Half of the old font is still in the building, currently residing right outside my sister’s front door.  If you accidentally miss my sister’s house and keep going down another flight, I’m told you’ll run into the crematorium.  Of all the times I got lost, I’m just glad I never ended up in there.  The irony of a font and morgue all in my sister’s house was killing me…haha.  Ok, no more puns.  I couldn’t help myself.

p3290348

Heidi did inform me that she enjoys all of the room(The morgue is up and to the left…locked of course).

I’m standing on the top 3rd balcony to take this picture.  I told Will I liked the feel of double staircases in the entry way.  He informed me because of our house size, they probably wouldn’t be very useful for us at this point…maybe next time.

‘Sea’ing the World

imh_6434We spent our Saturday with some friends who came out from Utah.  Sea World was our destination.  All the kids really seemed to have a lot of fun.imh_6423

Annie and Hudson actually remembered everyone.  It was amazing.  I think it may have to do with the fact that the Millers were kind enough to temporarily adopt Hudson and Annie for my last year of teaching.

imh_6436Annie loves Kim.  She remembers and about jumped out of her car seat when she first saw her.

imh_6407We’re all just trying to decide where to go and what to do next.imh_6409

We actually ran into the Bradley’s while we were there too.  What can I say, it’s a small world.
