Wasn’t Halloween Last Month?
I don’t know if Hudson was subliminally wanting to be back in the hospital for his “birth”day again this year, but he was a day late. Hudson slammed his finger in the folding door on Sunday as I was cleaning up a glass he had shattered on the floor. Of course it happens right before we were ready to leave for church. This was one of the few times that I had no doubt he was going to need stitches. He managed to sever his finger from the side of his top knuckle over the top of his finger and back down to that same knuckle on the other side. Who knew fingers could really spurt? It kind of looked like someone tried to cut his fingerprint off and then deflate it. I will save you most of the gory details and just say it was really gross looking. The kitchen looks like a murder scene…perfect for Halloween, right? He tried so hard to be brave. Counting seemed to be the only thing that calmed him down – so we counted.
A huge thank-you goes out to Amber for coming and getting Annie from the ER. I can’t imagine how X-rays and the sewing would have gone with her bouncing on the bed beside him. You are a lifesaver! A big thank-you to the other members of the ward who were so thoughtful with their well wishing and their treats. We love you all!
We are thankful his finger was not broken. Several stitches and a huge dose of Motrin later, Hudson seems to be doing a little bit better.
P.S. – For now we thought it best to NOT include photos:)
Thanks for NOT including pictures. The kids told me Hudson went to the ER for a cut finger, but the details were a little shakey. I’m glad he’s okay!
November 17th, 2008 at 9:30 amGlad Hudson is feeling better! Heal quickly little guy.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:08 amI think we made it well past 100 counting. He still disagrees with me that 88 comes after 87 but we’re working on it.
November 17th, 2008 at 11:05 amAha! Finally a worthy challenger to my long-standing record for stitches. Let’s see where he stands at 16!
1. At least 5 in my hand at 4yrs in Australia
November 17th, 2008 at 1:24 pm2. 10 in my forehead first week of kindergarten
3. 25 in my eyebrow falling out of the bus
4. 35 in the back of my head falling out of the bus
5. 10 in my wrist the first time I stuck it through the glass door
6. 35 in my wrist and hand the second time I struck it through a glass door
7. 15 in my eyebrow after an elbow to the head during wrestling practice
8. 10 in my finger after hitting it with a sledge hammer and wooden stake
And to think it’s Joe we tease about his forehead scar. Seems so minor to Matt’s record but it is so much more visible. Trying to look at you in the eyes Joe, my eyes just wander up and I cant help but stare.
Matt you’re 145 stitches of fun. Was the last one from your vampire slaying days?
November 17th, 2008 at 5:46 pmwhat kind of weak readers do you think you have – let’s see some pics! ok, first we’ll just have sympathy for Hudson (and mom and dad).. hope he is doing ok!
November 17th, 2008 at 9:56 pm@ Michelle, the pictures won’t be quite as cool now that his finger is sewn back together and no longer swollen. I thought for sure it might explode at one point.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:08 pm@Matt, As a mother I hope Hudson can never give you a run for your money in stitches. I some how doubt that was our last trip to the ER though. We have made it through a broken arm and two sets of stitches in the head and now the finger. I guess he is averaging about once a year.
Not so fun for Hudson!!!! Glad all is better. What a brave boy…1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
