It’s an Earthquake, It’s a Flood, No It’s The Blattmans!!

Thanks to Target having backpacks on sale for $2.84 our Family Home Evening this week was on being prepared.  Both of the kids got backpacks and we went on a hunt around the house finding things to fill them.  Granted we could only put in enough for them to be able to carry so the hunt was short.  Following the hunt we had a little practice drill where we would call out disasters and Hudson and Annie would grab their backpacks and run for the door.  Family Home Evening then ended with Hudson giving the closing prayer giving thanks for the floods and the earthquakes.  We just hope we didn’t mess up the world’s karma.

I think Hudson’s got it right- cash, cash and more cash!

Great idea for FHE! We need to update our 72 hour kits and that would be a fun way to do it. We may do some stealing of your idea. I do hope Hudson doesn’t forget his shirt during a real disaster. He might want it to protect him from sunburn, bugs, wild dogs or something:)

Great lesson!!! Hopefully you will never need to use it though!

We are keeping our fingers crossed, and praying we never need to use ours again. We had to leave pretty fast during the fires last October. It was a good practice though, we learned a lot, even realized we were missing a few things. (we forgot al about batteries)

Those packs looked too light. Will knows I would have loaded his up as a child. I’ve thought perhaps a wheeled tote would allow the kids to carry a significant portion of the food supply just in case you have to walk all the way to Winnemucca to be with Nana & Papa.

That’s so great! We need to update ours. When we were evacuated last year, we didn’t even think to grab our 72 hour kits. Hmm…maybe that why Brian was just called to do emergency prep. I guess we’ll be doing your FHE idea soon.
