A Bit Overboard Matey…

Hudson had his good friend, Avery come over to play last weekend. Naturally, I took all of my pent up teacher thoughts and emptied them into their play date. Hudson is on a pirate kick and Avery a princess kick so they ended up with a bit of a theme. Hudson played the role of pirate and Avery had to be a princess pirate. The teacher in me wanted the fun to include learning since learning can equal fun. Ha! So my brain sorted the activities as follows:
1. Treasure hunt sorting pirate gold …..gold needs to be sorted by high frequency words to get the next clue…word to focus on…AND!!
(High frequency word = word which occurs often in almost any text = in, the, and, is, I, etc.)
2. Food that looks like sea creatures – namely octopus…………alluring food that will turn into energy to play other educational games
3. Making a lei from straws and paper flowers…………focus on fine motor skills.
4. Building a pirate fort and walking the plank………….encouraging creativity.
I decided to save the eye patches, flag making other odds and end for a later date. I am very aware of my obsession and my tendencies to go overboard. Curbing that obsession is a work in progress. Effects of my obsession include Hudson now only eating hot dogs if they are in the shape of an octopus. What have I done?! If anyone knows a good shrink, I’m open to suggestions!
P.S. – The shrink is for me, not Hudson.

Monkey’s Your Uncle
Saturday afternoon found us at the Wild Animal Park. Hudson and Annie really seemed to enjoy themselves. Of course Annie waved and greeted everyone we passed.

Will and Hudson even raced boats.

My favorite part of the day would have to be Hudson’s attempt at the Footsie Wootsie.

Too bad I didn’t have any quarters on me.

I Feel Like Spam
I have come to love reading blogs. The day I figured out how to comment on blogs was most joyous! To save myself from embarassment I will not share that date. However, I thought the boxes with the weird, spooky font letters were a bit much. I had first noticed them trying to buy tickets to an event online. What is with the, “type the letters you see in the box.” Eventually, I saw a special on TV talking about a scalper who outsources typing the letters in the boxes to India – no joke. He can buy up tickets for main events this way faster for resale. Then Will enlightens me to computer generated spam and I now know understand the extra step.
Due to my increase in blogging I notice that I am lacking when it comes to those little boxes. Over half of the time I type it wrong and the site has to give me a new set of letters. Therefore…I feel like spam.

Contemplating My Navel

Normally, I am not one for public confessions. Today is officially exempt from my normal habits and I’m not really sure why. This entry is not for the weak stomach or the faint of heart so if you must turn away…just kiddin’ I do write this fully aware of the heckling that may result.
Anyway, I was contemplating my navel (as my dad used to say) as well as pondering life in general and came to several realizations. Here is my list.
1. I love Will.
Okay, so maybe my list is short, but all of my other thoughts revolve around 1. Today I had a renewed hope and excitement of everything that is to come in our lives and was overwhelmed with all of those day to day things that Will does for me to make my life easier. Helping me unload the dishwasher, wrangling the kiddos before bed, reparking the car in the garage so I don’t take out a side mirror, playing hide ‘n go seek – even when there are no places to really hide, and most importantly, being a pillar of strength in a flurry of confusion.
I’m guilty of nagging more often than I am letting him know how much I love and appreciate him.
Will, I love you and there is no one else I would rather be with than you!

Fun in the Sun
The Millers came to town and were kind enough to allow us into their family vacation. Hudson and Annie blend so well with them. Several trips to Sea World, the beach and a BBQ made for an exciting week.
Hudson pretty much glued himself to their family, especially the youngest. Hugs, headbutts, and hand holding- he could not be separated.

Annie found her place amid the myriad of treats and snacks offered to her. I think her cheeks are chubbing nicely.
