A Bit Overboard Matey…
Hudson had his good friend, Avery come over to play last weekend. Naturally, I took all of my pent up teacher thoughts and emptied them into their play date. Hudson is on a pirate kick and Avery a princess kick so they ended up with a bit of a theme. Hudson played the role of pirate and Avery had to be a princess pirate. The teacher in me wanted the fun to include learning since learning can equal fun. Ha! So my brain sorted the activities as follows:
- Treasure hunt sorting pirate gold …..gold needs to be sorted by high frequency words to get the next clue…word to focus on…AND!!
(High frequency word = word which occurs often in almost any text = in, the, and, is, I, etc.) - Food that looks like sea creatures – namely octopus…………alluring food that will turn into energy to play other educational games
- Making a lei from straws and paper flowers…………focus on fine motor skills.
- Building a pirate fort and walking the plank………….encouraging creativity.
I decided to save the eye patches, flag making other odds and end for a later date. I am very aware of my obsession and my tendencies to go overboard. Curbing that obsession is a work in progress. Effects of my obsession include Hudson now only eating hot dogs if they are in the shape of an octopus. What have I done?! If anyone knows a good shrink, I’m open to suggestions!
P.S. – The shrink is for me, not Hudson.
