Free the Grapefruit!
Annie figured out how to open the fridge this week. In doing so she now has quite the fondness for grapefruit. I’m sure this is due to the fact that it was the ONLY piece of fruit in the crisper. None the less, I was constantly finding her cuddling the grapefruit on the couch or hiding it in various locations around the house. Returning the piece of fruit to the fridge each time did not seem to deter her. She seemed to know when it was back in the fridge and would set off to free the grapefruit once again. It wasn’t until a quiet moment in her room that I understood the significance of the grapefruit as she cood the word, “Baby.” After that the grapefruit never caught sight of the fridge again. I didn’t have the heart.
Naturally, yesterday it ended up with a fuzzy navel, ha! It found the trash can and I finally went out and bought Annie her first Cabbage Patch Baby. I forgot amid the the piles of trucks, Legos and cars that maybe my baby girl would like a doll of her own.

Dirt, Mosquitoes and Children…oh my!

I haven’t been camping for ages and was starting to wonder if I still had it in me. The annual ward camp out found us at beautiful Heise Park. I absolutely loved it. I suppose camping just a day and a night is a good way to ease back into the “great outdoors.” Although, I seriously question my survival skills considering I forgot a flashlight and toilet paper. Luckily, the bathrooms(Yes, I was singing praises. There were bathrooms.) were well stocked so the poison oak was left for someone else’s rear, not mine.
I’m also glad to see that there are plenty of people as crazy as me. All but three families brought multiple children under the age of 3 camping. I did not feel alone as Annie joined in the chorus of children howling in the middle of the night at the moon. And of course I wish I ha a special award to the gal in the ward who camped with her 8 month old baby and her 2 year old twins.

Shut Your Pie-Hole
I discovered Marie Calendar’s Pies while my parents were in town. I didn’t realize at the time just how dangerous this could possibly be. We enjoyed a Razzleberry and a fabulous Strawberry Banana Cream Pie per my Dad’s request(I ate half the pie on my own, leaving the Razzleberry for the other 7 people). Since they have come and gone I have returned to the Pie store and bought the same two pies again. I shared one piece of the Razzleberry with Will and completely finished off the Strawberry Banana Cream on my own in one day. Note to self: Shut Your Pie-Hole.
P.S. – If you haven’t seen Pushing Daisies, I highly recommend it.

Life’s a Beach
I have officially scarred one of my children (again) and will forever feel guilty…at least until she isn’t scared of the ocean anymore. Poor Annie had an intense encounter with the waves this last week during playgroup. I’m watching both kids and of course they aren’t in the same spot so I am constantly doing the head swivel. Annie: playing by edge of waves – check. Hudson:playing in waves – check. Annie – standing ankle deep in water and splashing – check. Hudson – throwing wet sand at other kids Hudson, stop throwing sand. – check. Annie – toppling over after huge, unexpected wave hits (mom closes distance with lightening speed – special mom powers)…but not fast enough. Mom reaching for Annie as she is rolling with the two following waves. Lesson learned: 10 feet is too far away from Annie, even if she isn’t in the water. As you can see from this picture, Annie now runs and panics at the sight of any wave.

“Life’s a beach,” I tell her. She now sticks to the sand and it sticks to her and life is good.

Hudson I have not scarred, yet. He loves the beach and the waves. Building sand castles, being buried and chasing waves is his style. His blonde streaked hair and his tan has him fitting in with the natives.

Sometimes the waves do the chasing.

A Walk in the Park
I had forgotten how relaxing a walk in the park can be, until our family tried out Balboa Park this weekend. The whole park has a Spanish colonial feel. There’s a whole slew of museums along the walk as well as botanical gardens and fountains.

Of course you have to have a young boy playing his accordian at any park worthwhile, right? You might imagine a fun little polka or a serenade, but alas, not this kid. He was playing the Indiana Jones theme song…that’s right. I made Will throw some money into his case and what does he start playing? Star Wars!!!
